Abstract:
The first paper aims to examine the applicability of the nonprofit satellite account, developed on the basis of the UN Economic and Social Affairs Statistics Division's "Handbook on Non-Profit Institutions in the System of National Accounts," as a means to statistically grasp the actual conditions under which the nonprofit sector operates. The creation of Japanese nonprofit satellite accounts is considered in light of the realities faced by Japanese NPOs and existing methods of nonprofit statistical data. Rather than creating a system of nonprofit satellite accounts in accordance with the UN Handbook from scratch, it seems to be more feasible both from the perspective of labor and budget, to create one based on existing SNA data periodically gathered by the government. It is necessary to conduct nation-wide research into the actual activities of various NPOs as well as on donations and volunteering.
