Ireland's Exposure To a Sterling Shock

Abstract: This paper examines the performance of sterling on international currency exchanges and the implications for the UK economy. Section 3 summarises the results from the EMU study published in 1996. Section four outlines the implications for Ireland of sterlings strength and considers the impact of a sudden 25 per cent depreciation in sterling onboth the Irish and the UK economies. Section five presents our conclusions.
