Colin Divall ()
Working Papers from eSocialSciences
Abstract:
The ways in which the public learns about the histories of transport and travel are explored. The role of displays put on by museums and by heritage transport attractions - organisations such as steam railways, paddleboat shipping companies, vintage bus and tram operators, and so on, which operate obsolete vehicles for the public's benefit are explained. [Lecture delivered by Colin Divall at the National Railway Museum as his inaugural address as Professor of Railway Studies in the University of York].
