Abstract:
Ashish Nandy’s utopia is based on a particular view of cosmopolitanism – one that acknowledges and acts upon suffering as a global feature irrespective of geographical and historical location. Nandy’s proposed response to this recognition of suffering is primarily affective. This recognition leads to a politics, and a vision – that her is termed ‘affective cosmopolitanism’. Nandy’s ‘affective cosmopolitanism’ constitutes, it is argued, the opening moments of new debates in cosmopolitanism.
