Interactions between Policy Assumptions and Rural Women’s Work –A Case Study

Abstract: This paper is mainly concerned about the approaches to rural women’s development and an understanding of their work roles in the planning strategies. Changes in the economic and social participation of rural women are linked to the way the rural economy gets incorporated in national and international markets. The introduction of democratic decentralization policies have weakened the hold of traditional caste stratification on one hand and on the other hand have created power relation between haves and have-nots. This paper is based on the field work by the author in a green revolution district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Etawah. This field work explores the relationship between development activities and socio-economic changes and women’s access to information, resources and decision-making.
