Working Papers from eSocialSciences
Abstract:
China’s economy is booming at the expense of its environment. The country’s resource efficiency is nowhere near the level of western nations. Per unit of gross domestic product China consumes more than four times as much energy. The most serious environmental problems facing the country are its severe air pollution and the inadequate quality and shortage of water. Nor do the social standards for Chinese workers match those in traditional industrial countries.
