Abstract:
How has the political leadership in Karnataka contributed to the state's economic developmet? In order to assess the role that the political leadership has played, the author examines the role of the chief ministers in influencing the pace and quality of development of a state. The paper looks at the major economic indicators of economic development during the periods of successive chief ministers and the policy initiatives taken by them that might have created conditions conducive for the development of Karnataka.It concludes by presenting an inter-state comparison of the development performance
