A Study on Gender Based Violence in Kerala

Abstract: The paper presents gender-based violence and theories its causes and correlates; it then reviews global information on the prevalence of gender-based violence against women and its health consequences. The national context on gender-based violence against women is outlined. It then presents an overview of the status of women in Kerala and the paradoxical coexistence of indicators of high status with a relatively high prevalence of gender-based violence.
