Abstract: With a view to increasing the coverage of banking services amongst local communities, it was proposed in the Annual Policy Statement for the year 2010-11 to set up a Committee comprising of all stakeholders for studying the advisability of granting new urban co-operative banking licences under Section 22 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 (AACS). In the Second Quarter Review of Monetary Policy 2010-11, the Committee was advised to look into the feasibility of an umbrella organisation for the Urban Co-operative Banks (UCB) sector.
