Arresting Child Mortality Rates: What Do the Report Cards Say?

Shambhu Ghatak ()

Working Papers from eSocialSciences

Abstract: The issue of child mortality in India has been under the scanner in several research publications in recent times. All the reviews acknowledge that India will not achieve the required reductions of under-five mortality rates by 2015 designated as the year of achievement of the eight Millennium Development Goals. Why is India lagging behind? What are the critical factors that are impeding the lowering of child deaths?
