The Business of Business is Business

Abstract:
In modern world, the role of the corporate business has extended far beyond just producing goods and services or creating jobs, or even promoting industrial growth. Business should be a powerful agent of positive social change and hence a ‘commitment to shared prosperity’ is essential in the operation of the corporation. The old style paternalistic philanthropy of `doing for the community’, is giving way to the idea of `working with the community’. The business of business is indeed just not business. The question is, can the corporate sector respond effectively to the societal needs and rise above self-interest and acknowledged success indicators of profits and shares.
