Abstract: This paper seeks to understand the trends in Centre-State relations in post-Independence India in their varied manifestations over time, across space, and along the specific context of issues. The dynamics that characterised the unfolding of Constitutional potential, the multiple moments of rethinking and reformulation of the federal institutions and processes, as also, the challenges thrown up by these in the emerging scenario define the tasks attempted in this paper.
