Abstract: The surveys on social consumption relating to health, conducted by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), are primary source of basic quantitative information on the health sector like morbidity, hospitalisation, extent of receipt of pre-natal and post-natal care by women, expenditure incurred on treatment received from public and private sectors, use and cost of AYUSH treatment, etc. These are used for planning, policy formulation, decision support and as input for further analytical studies by various Government organizations, academicians, researchers and scholars.
