Abstract:
The role of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in the current stage of reform is crucial. The need for research and information collection not just at the national level but at the state-level has never been so great. In other words, data collected at State will be basic constituents in such framework. And yet, there is little importance given to state-level research within the RBI. The attempt to bring out a Handbook of Statistics of Tamil Nadu by DEAP, RBI Chennai is welcome. This practice adopted in other states will be a first step for the reform agenda.
