Children’s Work Activities in a Peasant Household: Epitome of Neo-Classical Rationality or Else?

Abstract:
This paper reflects upon a simple micro-economic model of a small peasant household economy has been formulated to derive the conditions for optimum labour time allocation among different gainful activities of the child and adult members. An empirical example with Indian data is also presented as an aid to a judgement on the relevance of such neoclassical optimising framework in the context of poor peasants of LDCs.
