Urban India 2011: Evidence
Indian Institute for Human Settlements ()
Working Papers from eSocialSciences
Abstract:
India’s urban transition has the potential to shift the country’s social, environmental, political and economic trajectory. Urbanisation will interact with the country’s ongoing demographic evolution to shape the extent of the “demographic dividend†as a young labour force moves into more or less productive employment with unknown opportunities for economic and social mobility. This report presents evidence and data for the scope and scale of India’s urban transitions.
