Mobile Financial Services in Bangladesh: An Overview of Market Development

Bangladesh Bank

Working Papers from eSocialSciences

Abstract: The objective of this report is to share a market level overview of the early stage progress of MFS in Bangladesh up through the first quarter of 2012. With this goal in mind Bangladesh Bank has collaborated with CGAP (www.cgap.org), an independent policy and research body dedicated to financial inclusion, to complete this study. The information and analysis in the report are based on a series of short surveys and discussions with ten banks and four MNOs, plus interviews with a sample of one hundred MFS users and fifty agents extending the service.
