Abstract: The present study was taken up in this context with the objective of examining the land laws and administration in AP and see how the existing laws are implemented, forced acquisition of lands is taking place and how the State is responding to protests by the affected people. Two case studies have been taken up for deeper analysis: Kakinada SEZ and Polavaram irrigation project. This study was conducted during 2010-11. After this, the Parliament has enacted a new law for land acquisition and rehabilitation in 2013, and the state of AP was bifurcated w.e.f. 2 June 2014 to form the state of Telangana. Later, the revenue mandals and villages that are going to be affected by Polavaram project have been transferred from Telangana to the residual state of Andhra Pradesh.
