Abstract:
Gender discrimination manifests itself as violence in the family, community, and society. It takes the forms of female foeticide, female infanticide, abuse of the girl child, social harassment, mental torture, physical violence, and cruelty affecting body and mind of women. The present study attempts to examine the causes and extent of domestic violence as well as its manifestations and consequences in a selected district in Kerala,.Ernakulam, one of the advanced districts of Kerala in terms of education, income, and urbanisation [Discussion Paper 55].
