Jozef Konings and Bas van Aarlen

Working Papers of VIVES - Research Centre for Regional Economics from KU Leuven, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), VIVES - Research Centre for Regional Economics

Abstract: This paper analyses Belgian fiscal sustainability using both a retrospective and a prospective view. In the retrospective part, empirical tests on Belgian government solvency during the period 1980-2010 are carried out. In the prospective part a scenario analysis of budgetary adjustment in the short and medium run under alternative hypotheses is undertaken.
