Abstract: The article is dealing with the evolution of Czech and Slovak institutions of government support of agricultural credit during the period of economic transition. Both the development of credit and the forms of government support used in the Czech Republic are compared with their corresponding counterparts in Slovakia. Special attention is devoted to the process of institutional divergence, when comparable initial problems were solved by the introduction of practically identical institutions in both republics while the consequent evolution of these institutions was significantly different in both republics.
