A Social Network Approach to Spanish Immigration: An Analysis of Immigration into Spain 1998-2006

Rickard Sandell ()

No 2008-33, Working Papers from FEDEA

Abstract: From being an European emigration champion for a good part of the 20th century Spain have not only seen a reversal in its migration flows, but have for some time been the perhaps most important immigration destination worldwide. Its immigrant population, documented and undocumented, have grown from less than 900 thousand in 1998 to close to 5.2 million in 2008. Or to get a clear understanding of the size magnitude of Spain's immigration, imagine the entire population of Ireland moving to Spain in the course of just ten years.
