Abstract: Philadelphia Fed President Patrick T. Harker told an audience at Rider University that the job market is “extremely robust” but that inflation, the other half of the Fed’s mandate, is “proving more troublesome.” He said he anticipates both “a series of deliberate, methodical hikes” this year and that the Fed will begin to unwind its balance sheet. He also highlighted recent research from the Philadelphia Fed about how workers without college degrees are finding new opportunities after high rates of unemployment early in the pandemic. “This is clearly a salutary trend, and we should be thinking of ways to build on it,” he said
