Health Care as an Economic Driver
Patrick T. Harker
Speech from Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia
Abstract:
Philadelphia Fed President and CEO Patrick T. Harker told an audience at the University of Delaware’s Stern Future Healthcare Workforce Summit that the growth of health care is leading economic change. He cited the importance of anchor institutions, such as colleges, universities, and nonprofit medical institutions, that drive regional employment and “new businesses through innovation, technology transfer, and commercialization.” He also highlighted the Philadelphia Fed’s forthcoming national Anchor Economy Dashboard that will capture the importance of these institutions to their regional economies.
