The Economic Outlook

Jeffrey Lacker

Speech from Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond

Abstract: It’s a pleasure to speak on the economic outlook today, because after many months I am finally able to say with a reasonable degree of confidence that the outlook is improving. We’ve endured the worst downturn that the economy has experienced in most of our lifetimes, and conditions remain distressed in many industries and localities. Yet the economy appears to have leveled out and I believe we can look forward to better times ahead. Before discussing this outlook in more detail, I’d like to provide my perspective on the developments that led up to the recent recession. Please note that these are my own views and should not be attributed to any other person in the Federal Reserve System.
