Abstract:
We present in this paper a new approach to evaluate labour market structures. A labour market structure is a distribution of the labour force into different categories of employed and unemployed, depending on the nature of the labour contract (permanent or temporary) and the duration of unemployment (short or long term). The comparison is made in terms of the probability of getting better results in the labour market for a representative worker. This idea corresponds to the application to this environment of the notion of the balanced worth (Herrero and Villar 2018). We provide two applications to illustrate the working of this evaluation protocol, both comparing the evolution of labour market structures between 2007 and 2017. The first application refers to the OECD countries and the second to the different age groups in the Spanish labour market.
