Why do Farmers Expand their Land into Forests? Theories and Evidence from Tanzania

Abstract: This paper examines the causes of agricultural land expansion and deforestation in Tanzania. In the theoretical section, two different -and partly contradicting- sets of hypotheses are outlined.
