Working Papers from Gouvernement du Canada - Human Resources Development
Abstract:
This paper examines how individuals' earnings mobility varies with the time period considered and starting position in the earnings distribution, as well as by age and sex. Three measures are used in this analysis: conditional transition matrices between earnings quintiles, the total number of years spend in a given quintile , and a mean quintile index has been developed by the author. Results ahow that there are substantial differences in the extent of earnings mobility along all three dimensions examined.
