Working Papers from European Institute - History

Abstract: For more than three years a research project has been developed at the EUI focusing on the computerized historical mapping of European transports and communications. It developed out of a previous project on "the second technological revolution and the economic growth of Europe : the role of networks". Our interest in the relationship between transport and communication networks and the peculiar European pattern of increasingly fragmented states called for a cartographical support.
