Assessing the Relationship Between the Behaviour of Tourists and Leisured People: a Conceptual Analysis

Abstract: In the past tourism and leisure tended to be studied in isolation. However, this situation has recently begun to alter as researchers have attempted to understand the relationship between these fields of academic study. Despite this comparisons of the behaviour of people in leisure and tourism environments are generally lacking. While there appear to be similarities between how people behave in tourism and leisure settings the existence of differences questio the compatibility of leisure and tourism theories and conceptualizations. However, the apparent relationship between tourist and residual cultures, which influence behaviour in the holiday and home environments respectively, indicates that there may be an underlying commonality between leisure and tourism.
