Perception of 'Atmosphere' within the Holiday Environment: a Case Study of Young Backpackers in London

Abstract: This paper studies how young, single, backpackers perceive the atmoshpere and risk within the urban holiday environment of London, England. The study perseived atmosphere is important not only in its own right, but also because of the influence is may have on use of leisure spaces and times. This research assesses gender and group composition differences in perception of atmosphere, addressing the relatively neglected issues of men's perception and the relationship between the genders.
