Testing the Influence of Countries and National Cultural Values on Compensation Policies

Abstract: This paper addresses two main issues in the field of international compensation. First, based on institutional and rational perspectives, we investigated, using a database for five European countries, the most appropriate level fo analysis to predict compensation policies: countries or industries? For the second issue, using Hofstede's conceptual framework for classisying national cultures, we developed hypotheses based on scholar prescriptions concerning the association between national cultural values and compensation policies.
