Asymmetries in the Dynamics of French Job Creation and Destruction Flows

Frédéric Karamé and C. Perraudin

Papiers d'Economie Mathématique et Applications from Université Panthéon-Sorbonne (Paris 1)

Abstract: This paper aims at providing an original specification of French aggregate gross jobs flows during the period 1987 - 1996 for the manufacturing sector, based on the Markov-switching methodology. This approach allows us to analyze the different types of asymmetries documented in the literature since they naturally appear in our specification. The univariate and multivariate analysis implemented converge to characterize (i) the gross job flows as asymmetric, (ii) the studied period as an employment adjustment more than an employment reallocation period and (iii) the production to be in advance on the job flows.
