Employment and Productivity Growth in service and Manufacturing Sectors in France, Germany and US

Abstract: While labour productivity grew faster in France and Germany than in the US, employment growth in the two Euro-area countries was much weaker since the early 1970s. This paper starts out from the observation that the growth patterns of service sectors can explain most of these differences.
