Sequencing Effects in Double-Bounded Dichotomous Choice Contingent Valuation Surveys

Abstract: The debate over the efficacy of the dichotomous choice contingent valuation methodology for eliciting the public's values for environmental improvements is on-going. An important issue is the effect of the question sequence. This paper uses a double bounded dichotomous choice suvey instrument to obtain benefit estimates for improvements to water-based recreational activities - specifically swimming- in the Hamilton Harbour watershed.
