Abstract: Nesse artigo são analisados os microfundamentos de Friedrich A. Hayek e Herbert A. Simon no que se refere às suas propostas epistemológicas, procurando desenvolver uma reflexão acerca da natureza e da forma do conhecimento condizente com uma abordagem institucionalista de caráter evolucionário. Isto é feito observando o modo como os autores descrevem a apreensão das informações e a percepção dos agentes econômicos, a maneira de inter-relacionar esses conhecimentos parciais e subjetivos dos indivíduos, os mecanismos gerados para lidar com a limitação de conhecimento num ambiente complexo com incertezas e a conseqüente origem e natureza de instituições.
