Long-run relationship between income inequality and financial development in China

Abdul Jalil and Mete Feridun

No 7923, Greenwich Papers in Political Economy from University of Greenwich, Greenwich Political Economy Research Centre

Abstract: This article aims at investigating the long-run relationship between financial development and income inequality in China using Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model from 1978 to 2006. The results suggest that there exists a strong relationship between the Gini coefficient and financial development, and that financial development leads to a reduction in the income inequality.
