Abstract: Four episodes of economic crisis have had a particularly significant impact on economic activity since the 1980s. Three of these crises have had a significant financial dimension, the fourth is atypical. However, they have all had a high fiscal cost. The article focuses on the management of the fiscal constraint and its impact on public debt as a result of these four crises and shows a cumulative impact.
