Abstract:
The European Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) states as objective that hydrogen refuelling stations should be deployed with a maximum distance of 200 km in between them across the trans-European transport network with a minimal capacity of one ton per day. This paper compares three configurations of hydrogen supply: an on-site hydrogen production (around 2 MW electrolyser), a centralized hydrogen production dedicated to mobility (around 10 MW electrolyser) and a centralized hydrogen production with different uses (over 100 MW electrolyser). The Mixed Integer Programming (MILP) simulations, performed with the PERSEE software, showed that under our assumptions, the levelized cost of hydrogen (LCOH) is about 5.9 €/kg for the on-site production and the small centralized hydrogen production with gaseous logistics. With a larger centralized production and liquid logistics, the LCOH is 15 % higher, at 6.8 €/kg. This over cost is explained, amongst other things, by the higher electricity consumption for the liquefaction process.
