Abstract:
On the basis of the application of the Economic geography approach on the economic integration process of Mercosur, I discuss in the first section a model developed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) in favour of ALCA. In the second section, we discuss the limits of such a conception, pointing out the absence of certain fundamental variables that are nevertheless worth being considered in the study of the economies of the region. Indeed, the international industrial economic aspects, development economics, and the insertion into the world economy of these periphery countries are of dramatic importance in the finance-led accumulation regime that most Latin America countries experience and in the integration process in the Americas.
