Health, equity and social welfare
Marc Fleurbaey
Post-Print from HAL
Abstract:
In the light of recent developments in welfare economics, this paper re-examines various ethical principles for health care finance and provision which have been prominent in recent literature. It critically discusses the principle of "equal opportunity for health" in particular, and argues that a good criterion about health should be embedded in a general criterion of social welfare. Several possibilities for such a general criterion are reviewed.
