Abstract:
The number of professionals is increasing within organizations. This trend questions the traditional organizational control approach of profession. In this paper, we examine its relevance both in the description of reality and the model of control that it implies. To address the recent organizational evolutions, we suggest a pragmatic approach of profession, grounded on Abbott's framework. Finally, we characterize the major aspects of such an approach to shed light on its applications and appropriation by managers.
