Abstract:
A model is presented for understanding crises that are so intense that we can say that the organization itself is in crisis. After a review of the literature by type, the examination of three cases shows that three different phenomena causes such crises : a phenomena of "avoidance" that structures the organization,a situation-dependant event that forces the organization to face avoided problems, and a management not adapted to this confrontation. Practical lessons are drawn in conclusion.
