Abstract:
This paper focuses on the effects of extracurricular activity on graduates' transition from higher education to the labour market. The study is based on a survey of 400 graduates conducted in 2004 in France. The data gathered were analysed by means of regression models. The results obtained show that extracurricular activity has a significant influence on school-to-work transition. Extracurricular experience does not make a difference between graduates who involved and those who did not, but rather within the group of those who involved. The type, duration, intensity and context of practice thus shape various ways to enter into the labour market. These results suggest extracurricular strategies for graduates' effective transition and for educational and guidance institutions.
