Abstract:
Firms seek to successfully involve their suppliers into New Product Development projects in order to gain competitive advantage. This involvement may range from simple consultation of suppliers on design orientations to delegating full responsibility of the design to suppliers for the system they will outsourced. This paper investigated the management of knowledge across inter-organisational boundaries. Informed by findings from literature and two exploratory cases, we emphasized firstly knowledge management has to be appropriate according to the type of supplier involvement and secondly there is no single Information Technology solution to support all supplier collaborations
