Abstract:
Cost reduction policies (CRP) are frequently announced by big companies. This article studies the role of pressures exercised by the actors of the institutional field of listed companies through their discourses to announce a strategic reduction of their costs. Using the discursive model of institutionalization proposed by Phillips, Lawrence et Hardy (2004), we analyze the discourse of the main actors of this institutional field, highlighting the coercitive, mimetic and normative pressures towards CRP. The empirical results of our discourse analysis may be summarized in a scheme of production and consumption of discourses related to CRP, that actively contribute to the institutionalization of this practice, turning it into a "best practice".
