Abstract: Online participative democracy has been the subject of more and more thorough studies and contributions. Most experiments may chiefly be found on the websites of big towns or cities. Mostly cultural reasons may account for the registered differences in practices. Thus, the elector's relation to local democracy may be determined by inhabitants' net‐connection rate, commitment to local life, by the nature of the process of political decision‐making, or any other cultural phenomenon. This relatively complex situation, linked with the manifold legal and cultural criteria to be taken into account, permits to highlight the diverse approaches of each town's construction of websites. This paper examines the different practices of big European cities regarding online participative democracy.
