Abstract:
AN ANALYSIS OF THE BUS ROUTES IN THE MEDIUM SIZE FRENCH CITIES : A survey of the structure of the supply have been conducted among 35 bus only networks of French medium size cities [from 100 000 to 600 000 inhabitants]. It has been undertaken as part of a program devoted to the analysis of supply and demand for public transport in those cities. Following the research report n°100, devoted to the demand size, this report deals with the supply side, at the disaggregate level of bus routes. Our sample provides a description of 620 bus routes, from the point of view of the distribution of the services over the day and the week, length and speed, types of links, a.s.o .. The first part is devoted to a general description of the supply: study of the links between the main parameters, and identification of the hierarchy between routes. The second part is devoted to an analysis of the differences of level of service between the different towns of a same conurbation : the analysis is conducted according to the position in the conurbation, the density and the number of inhabitants.. It shows the importance of the public logics in the design of the networks.
