Abstract: The necessity has been arisen in connection with the transition to the information society to develop new educational technologies in the field of training for the food sector. It has been proposed to execute the training of specialists of new generation based on a specially created innovative research and education centers in the universities. The main educational areas of REC established in MGUPP will be assigned to develop special technology of the food products, innovation regimes and diets, foods with new functional characteristics, social technologies of population adaptation to new food technologies, problems of production and storage of the food resources in the different scenarios for the global economy, and other innovative areas. The convergent technologies are the methodological basis for research and educational process. The convergent technologies can primarily be implemented in the scientific community of merchandising in the food sector of the economy converging technologies. The priority tasks of the convergent technologies in merchandising include the development of new technologies for handling food, forming a diet unique for each consumer, based on the features of its genome, design of the innovative food products based on the advanced science, development of the unique technologies to long-term storage of foods.
