Abstract: The article presents an integrated assessment of population's social protection and its functional role in the economic development of Russian territories. There is an aggregate index of social protection on the basis of individual indexes that reflects the level of income, unemployment, socio-economic disparities, health status, demographic burden, education in different regions of the country.
